We’re all [rockabilly scene] covered in tattoos and we all grease our hair and wear clothes that make people look at us in a really weird way, but when you get inside a club or a party you feel like you belong.
It is not only the music of the Wild Ones that compels, largely consisting of their own compositions, but the fact that the band brings something slightly different to the rockin’ scene.
Quality control has definitely been exercised when it comes to the Champs current album ‘Stay True’
“At the time, I was playing football for a team called St. Josephs who were linked to Blackburn [Rovers] and managed by Kenny Dalglish during this period.
He was smaller than me and wearing a baseball cap but got us [thinking] that really looks like Slash.
“I think one of the main reasons as well was to stop trying to please or appeal to other people and instead write music that we like ourselves.
“My mother used to bring home country tapes from the library but she also had the soundtrack to the Loretta Lynn movie ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’.”
